Intermediate School Curriculum

General Introduction

Welcome to Greengates Intermediate School! This Curriculum Booklet introduces the range of courses available to students in Forms 1 - 3, our Greengates Intermediate School. Our range of courses aims to provide a continuum of academic excellence, building upon material presented in the Junior School and anticipating the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), examined and externally graded courses studied in Forms 4 and 5, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) beyond that.

The courses offered to our students at this British International school promote our basic mission of academic rigor, tolerance and understanding among our culturally and linguistically diverse student population, whatever one’s race, colour or creed. In short, as our web page on the Internet states, these high academic expectations we have of our students are very much part of school life at all levels. In addition, it is our desire that Greengates students are happy and enjoy their time here. We wish to create a memorable "Greengates experience" for all our students as we prepare them to be nothing less than well-rounded citizens of the world.

In the following pages the essential parts of each course (its aims, objectives, basic course content, and assessment) will be presented.

Further Information about the Arts and Computer Rotations

Most courses are allocated specific contact time and are taught at the same times throughout the three terms, while other courses will rotate. In Forms 1 - 3, the subjects of Computer, Drama, Music and Pottery are studied for a quarter of the year per subject. (Note: All students also have access to computers in the senior library and in the Computer Department afternoon activities programme.) Approximately ten school weeks are devoted to each subject before the course rotates. Thus, a student who begins to study Computing will move to Drama around the autumn half-term, then begin the study of Music at the end of January. Finally, after Easter holidays, the student starts Pottery / Ceramics classes, completing them at the end of the academic year.

Reporting stages are as follows:

Cycle 1) - October Interim Report

Cycle 2) - Easter Interim Report

Cycle 3) - Summer Full report

Cycle 4) - Summer Full Report
