Students should NOT stay in school in the afternoon without authorisation.  Only students registered for afternoon classes will be allowed to stay in school.

DAILY REPORT

A number of students will be put on daily report (by KH) during the year.  The reasons for this are varied - failure to produce home works, poor organisation, poor behaviour, uniform, effort, parental or even student request etc. Students on report present this at the beginning of the lesson and collect it signed at the end.  Students show their Form tutor at registration and see Mrs. Holmes on Mondays and Fridays at 11.15.

AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

To complement the academic programme, recreational activities run daily between 2.50 and 4.00 p.m.  A termly circular will announce the current schedule.  A ‘late bus’ service operates  restricted routes.

As levels of pollution and ambient temperatures change rapidly in  Mexico City, students must bring swimming kit on scheduled days and any decision not to swim is taken by the school.

PTA

PTA meetings for Heads of PTA committees are held once a month.  The PTA arranges activities in which parents, teachers and students may all participate.  Generally there is a field day or Arts Fair during the first term and a very popular annual International Fair during the second term.

WEBSITE /E-MAIL

The school website home page is at: http://www.greengates.edu.mx The Intermediate School curriculum is posted on the website together with an up to date list of useful resources for parents on ICT and counselling topics. Please note that we also do post updated information on the school website such as key circulars, calendar dates, orientation manuals, parent-teacher meeting dates, trip information, and photo galleries in addition to curriculum and subject information for the Intermediate School, IGCSE and IB programmes.  Other useful information provided include the PTA pages including information on uniforms, tuck-shop and International Fair.  One of the recent additions to the website is an “online cashier’s” page where you can check your accounts and make online tuition payments

Email:

if parents have set security/spam/junk mail settings on a high or medium high level the Greengates e-mails may often be thrown out as spam mail.  You can remedy the problem by adding the greengates.edu.mx domain to your safe list.  It would be even better, if add the following e-mails to your safe list:  holmes1@greengates.edu.mx, lauram@greengates.edu.mx or sarav@greengates.edu.mx .  If you can add the “@greengates.edu.mx” domain to your safe list, it will also be useful.

WITHDRAWAL

Don’t use cell phones, IPODS, electrical items in school 8.20am-2.30pm,or at break. These will be confiscated for 24 hours or longer for 2nd offenders.

Don’t be late for school too often – don’t make excuses to yourself – 5 lates in a month will mean a detention even if older brothers or sisters bring you to school.

Don’t be late for class – you must arrive in the next class within 5 minutes and be ready for work – expect problems from teachers if you are late after warnings.

Don’t fail to do homeworks and hand in on time – expect a detention for 3 homeworks done poorly or not presented.  Poor homeworks will lead, obviously, to poor grades.

Don’t think that poor concentration in class is acceptable in Greengates.

Don’t eat, drink or chew gum in class.

Don’t write on desks/walls, lockers etc. or deface notices.

Don’t come back to school after an absence without a good reason – medical notes will be required.

Don’t drop litter or mess up your classroom – leave classrooms as clean as you would hope to find them.

Don’t drop litter anywhere at break – there are plenty of bins – USE THEM – keep your environment clean and tidy for YOUR health.

Don’t wear PE kit on non-PE days, especially lesson 5 on Thursday.  Note that coloured shirts are not to be worn to any other lesson than PE.  Change into your white shirt after PE.

Don’t bring balls to school.  The PE Department will give out equipment most days for your use at break time.

Don’t take away anything that does NOT belong to you – hand in valuables found as soon as possible to the ‘Bodega’ – you would expect your fellow students to do the same if this happened to them – STEALING IS VIEWED VERY SERIOUSLY at Greengates and if caught most students can expect expulsion.

- Don’t bring valuables or too much money to school – do not use Ipods, MP3, discmans, walkmans or cellular phones in school between 8.25 a.m. and 2.30p.m.  These will be confiscated for 24 hours or longer for a 2nd offence.
