SOCIAL PURPOSE

At Greengates School, our students build their responsibility towards others through service and charity initiatives. By the time they study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), they also take the lead through projects that showcase their creativity, activity, and service to benefit a community of their choice.

SERVICE STARTS AT SCHOOL

Every year, our students support different charities, working closely with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to fundraise support for others' needs or important causes. Together, they select charities that allow each child to help make an impactful decision within a community.
Our charity work with the PTA has included:
  • Second-hand uniform sales, where our community can purchase pre-owned items at a nominal cost and give the proceeds to charities.
  • Bake sales to support charities.
  • Donating books, technological equipment, school supplies, and furniture to other schools that will benefit from these resources.
  • Other fundraising events throughout the year.

CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE

By Secondary School, our students become drivers of activities through the ‘CAS’ (Creativity, Activity, Service) component of the IB Diploma Programme. Through CAS, they build their social responsibility in local or global communities. These opportunities increase their social awareness with the needs of others around them, and the service builds their character in becoming more well-rounded, value-driven individuals.
Our students’ CAS initiatives have included:
  • Teaching English to disadvantaged youth.
  • Collecting and donating resources from our school for other schools.
  • Supporting underprivileged communities located close to Greengates.
  • Raising donations for victims of natural disasters.
  • Gathering plastic bottles for recycling.
  • Supporting school children further away in Oaxaca.

COMMUNITY MENTORS

Our eldest students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) build their leadership by serving as role models to our younger students at Greengates. They work alongside primary students as part of their reading programme and tutor lower secondary students in Years 7 through 9, for example.

Through this mentorship, and their CAS projects, our IBDP students model ways to give back to others who need help – actively participating in our community and beyond.
