Primary Students Support Children with Cancer Through Bottle Cap Recycling

At Greengates, we believe that small actions can lead to meaningful change. Recently, our Primary School community came together for a bottle cap collection initiative that combined environmental responsibility with community service, helping students make a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Led by Alicia Stewart and the Primary Student Council, students across Primary participated enthusiastically in a friendly competition to collect as many bottle caps as possible. Year 5 emerged as the winning year group, contributing the highest number of caps and demonstrating outstanding commitment to the cause.

Turning Recycling into Support for Others

The collected bottle caps have now been delivered to a collection centre, where they will be recycled to help raise funds that support children undergoing cancer treatment.

What may seem like a simple everyday item can have a significant impact when a community works together. Through this initiative, students learned that even small contributions can help improve the lives of others.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This project reflects Greengates' commitment to developing globally minded students who understand the importance of service, responsibility and active citizenship.

By participating in initiatives like this, students have the opportunity to develop valuable life skills, including:

  • Empathy and compassion
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Environmental awareness
  • Social responsibility
  • Community engagement

These experiences help students understand how their actions can contribute to creating a better world for others.

A Community Working Together

We are incredibly proud of everyone involved and grateful to the families who supported the initiative. The success of this project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when students, staff and families work together towards a common goal.

We believe that qualities such as empathy, leadership, collaboration and a sense of purpose are among the most important skills young people can develop, skills that AI can’t match.

At Greengates, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through meaningful experiences like this, students develop the empathy, leadership and sense of responsibility needed to make a positive difference in the world.

If you are looking for a school that nurtures both academic excellence and character development, we invite you to discover Greengates. Enquire now to learn more about our programmes and admissions process.
